All rights reserved · free to read
EBH content is protected by copyright. Reading it is entirely free. Reuse follows simple rules, designed to encourage sharing while protecting the editorial work and the project's viability.
- Read, consult and print entries for personal use.
- Link to an entry or cite it, with the source and DOI.
- Catalogue and index the entries (libraries, search engines).
- Reproduce short excerpts, properly attributed.
- Reproduce a whole entry on another site or medium.
- Redistribute all or part of the encyclopedia (the collection is protected by database right).
- Any commercial use of the content.
How to reuse
Non-commercial use
Free, on request. Teaching, courses, theses, exhibitions, nonprofits: we grant permission to reproduce an entry case by case, at no charge.
Commercial use
Under a paid licence. Publishing, press, merchandise: reuse is possible under a written agreement, to support the project.
Free educational resources
If you distribute your materials free of charge, we apply no fee. Write to us.
Sponsored exception (CC-BY)
An entry may be opened under CC-BY when a partnership funds its production; the sponsor's credit then appears on the entry.
Appearing in the encyclopedia is never paid for: the choice of subjects rests solely with the editorial committee.
For any reuse request, write to the CHARESSO permissions desk.
